“Darkness Unwinds” is the second release by The Masque preceeded by the more raw and heavy “Bad Juju Medicine”which saw the band at it’s more raw, elemental, no frills sound. “Darkness” is a more subtle hard rock collection of songs and has as it’s loose theme the unrealized ideals of the hippie generation. “At Woodstock it rained” you might say. Don’t get me wrong this album has some serious rocking moments and certainly has that gothic darkness lurking around every corner, it’s just more nuanced than the album before it. All of this is of course to set the stage for the third album, the magnum opus “Vampire Theater”, which as the title suggests, is a very theatrical piece indeed and clearly deals with some darker themes
